Congratulations to Bristol Karate Academy student, Alfie Teague, for passing his black belt at the University of Bath Sports Village on Saturday.

Alfie, who started training at the Nailsea and Backwell Bristol Karate Academy dojos in 2014, took the milestone grading examination under a panel featuring Sensei Bob Rhodes, himself a former all-styles British squad member, and Sensei Andy Sherry, the first ever European Karate Champion.

Alfie now takes his place amongst the Academy’s ever-growing dan grade ranks as the twelfth straight 1st Dan pass in a row at the club – an incredible record, given the low pass rate for the exam.

Alfie’s main instructor, Sensei Tim Griffiths, said of his success, “Alfie sets a fantastic example for his clubmates to follow, embodying the true spirit of the martial art. He works hard, listens carefully and  is hugely dedicated.  Over the last six months in particular he’s taken his training programme seriously. He thoroughly deserves his black belt and I’m looking forward to him continuing to improve at the rate he has recently. Because if he does then he’ll certainly be someone to watch in the future.”

The young black belt is the first in a Karate-mad family to reach black belt, with his Dad one step away from brown belt and his younger sister recently joining Bristol’s main classes, having just graduated from the Academy’s youth programme, the Warriors.
