HEAD OF JKS ENGLAND VISITS BRISTOL
By Admin
29 March 2025 9:43 pm
We were delighted to welcome Sensei Alan Campbell to Bristol Karate Academy on 22nd March for our Spring seminar and grading.
As the Head of JKS England and the holder of the highest JKS grade in the UK, it’s always a pleasure to host him. This was Sensei’s third visit to the Academy and each time he visits he brings plenty of ideas to get the grey matter whirring!
In the first part of the seminar – an all-grade class – he explored the idea of how to use space, as well as contraction and expansion when attacking and moving out. In the brown and black belt class Sensei focused on starting and finishing movements together to help improve the flow and smoothness of techniques.
In between the 3.5 hours of classes, dozens of students had the opportunity to test themselves by taking a grading examination. We were delighted to have 57 people passing 12th to 1st Kyu gradings in March, including 48 people passing 9th to 1st kyu. Congratulations to everyone who took part and made the step up to their next belt!
We were also lucky to have the opportunity for one student to take their black belt ‘crossover’ grading on the day. We’d like to congratulate Nephele Metsiou on successfully passing her JKS shodan exam! Nephele first joined us in 2023 and has made a great impact since joining. It’s been fantastic to see her karate flourish over the last 18 months and to see her achieving her JKS grade under Alan Sensei.
We’d like to thank Alan Sensei for making the long trip down to visit us again. For anyone who missed the opportunity to join us, Sensei will be teaching at JKS national events throughout the year. You can find out more details on the JKS England website.
