A big congratulations to Academy member, Juan Rodrigues, who passed his JKS 3rd Dan yesterday!

Juan took his examination in Nottingham under a panel of senior JKS examiners, led by Head of JKS England, Alan Campbell Sensei, himself an 8th Dan of the Japan Karate Shoto Federation.

The grading went well, with solid performances of his Tokui (choice) kata Sochin and the examiners' choices of Jitte and Junro Sandan. Juan's kumite was also confident, assured and composed against a very good opponent.

This is the culmination of an incredible 12 months for Juan. In December last year he was awarded the Academy 'Virtute Et Industria' Shield for his outstanding karate. In February he was selected to the JKS England squad by national coach, Matt Price Sensei. This was then followed by an individual kumite silver medal at the Southern England Karate Open, a team kumite bronze at the BKF British Championships and a team kata bronze at the JKS England Nationals.

Juan has been a valued member of the Academy since joining after lockdown and it has been fantastic to see his karate improve so much over the last few years.

Well done, Juan. We're very proud of you and your achievements and look forward to seeing your continued progress in the future.
