It was a brilliant bronze for Nephele at the EKF International Open on Saturday, who competed as part of the JKS England national team.

The English Karate Federation held their showpiece international event at the iconic Crystal Palace National Sports Centre over the weekend of 7th and 8th September. The venue was home to many of the biggest events in English karate history during its heyday and so competitors were looking to share some of the magic at the first EKF international of the 21st century.

Nephele was competing in the 12-13 Girls' Kata event and performed exceptionally well to progress through the rounds against a quality field. Narrowly beaten in the semi final with her performance of Gojushiho Dai (by only 0.1), Nephele came back into the repechage final to earn a bronze medal, beating her Hong Kong opponent by 0.3 points with Gankaku.

Nephele's next strikeout will be at the JKS England National Championships, where she'll be aiming to upgrade last year's silver medal to gold. We're right behind you, Nephele! Keep working hard and good luck!
