A huge congratulations to our newest black belt, Evert Collard, who successfully completed his Shodan examination under Alan Campbell Sensei on Saturday 13th July.

Evert has been a member of the Academy since September 2015, starting as part of the Warriors programme at the tender age of 5. He is the sixth member to progress right the way through the programme. We hope this provides inspiration for some of our younger members!

Evert has had a strong start to 2024. He was a medallist at the Murayama Cup in Male 12-15 kata, picked up a second bronze at the JKS England Development Series event in Abingdon and then a further two medals in kata events at the Central England Open, in both Pairs and Team kata.

But it was in kumite that Evert was put through his paces in front of Alan Sensei, having to demonstrate his attacking intent, movement, ferocity and tactical capabilities. Evert did just that.

We are very proud of Evert for his achievement and look forward to continuing to see him progress as he takes his first step on the Dan grade ladder.
