EKF ENGLISH NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
By Admin
20 April 2024 9:54 pm
Congratulations to club instructor Tim Griffiths, who was part of the EKF English National Championship winning kata team on 14th April at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield!
Tim was part of the JKS England team that also featured Jason Lam (JKS Harrow) and Karanjeet Basran (Walsall Karate Dojo).
As individuals, Tim, Jason and Karanjeet have a great competitive record. While Tim is the current JKS England kata champion, Karanjeet picked up bronze in the same year, while Jason was the winner of the 2022 event. It was time to see if the team could build on their individual successes and come together to perform on the all-styles stage.
Not only was it the first time that this team had performed together, it was also the first time that they’ve each needed to show bunkai as part of a team performance – something that’s required for medal matches in events conducted to World Karate Federation rules. Plenty of training in the run up to the event meant that they were on form on competition day.
Congratulations to all three competitors, who have also now been confirmed as the JKS England senior male kata team for the JKS International Cup in Tokyo over the summer. The training is just getting started!
