NATIONAL SILVER FOR ADNAN
By Admin
31 July 2023 8:11 pm
Congratulations to Adnan Mahmud for winning a silver medal at the 2023 EKF English National Championships!
The premier English all-styles tournament of the year took place on Sunday 30th July in the Midlands and Adnan was competing in the -60kg Male Senior Kumite category.
Adnan qualified for the gold medal match after coming from behind in a dramatic semi final. With ashi barais (sweep takedowns), ura mawashi geri head kicks and fast front hand punches, Adnan showed that he deserved his place in the final. As the score ended 10-5, Adnan looked delighted at the result.
The final match was to be between two JKS England fighters. Adnan faced off against Anthony Halsall for the championship but it was Anthony that came away with the win on this occasion. Congratulations to Anthony on a well-fought final and his first English title!
With a break in tournaments during August, eyes now turn to the BKF British International in Sheffield at the beginning of September, where Adnan will look to medal once again. He’ll be joined by Bristol Karate Academy’s other JKS England squad members - Tim, Josh and Liam - who will be getting in their preparations ahead of the event. We look forward to keeping you updated with results from this tournament and more.
We hope that Adnan's silver medal performance inspires others at the Academy to follow in his footsteps. Members who are 9th Kyu and above and interested in getting involved in kumite practice can join our monthly
kumite development sessions
on the last Sunday of each month. Or for those graded 3rd Kyu and above, we have kumite training every Friday night in Backwell, plus kumite squad training throughout the year. Ask your instructor if you’d like to find out more.
For any non-members that are inspired to start karate,
get in touch
and find out about coming along to give it a try.
