“The best one yet”, said one of the attendees.

After a while of being unable to hold our annual Christmas Party face-to-face, it was so great to see so many members and their families coming together for an end of year celebration on Sunday 11th December! Over 80 of you made the trip to our Backwell Parish Hall venue to enjoy music, food, drink and good company.

With wine and cider mulling in the kitchen under the expert eyes of Dan, Jack and Kevin, it was Ian and Annette that took to the floor as quizmasters to test everyone’s knowledge. Several fantastic rounds later – including the crowd-pleasing ‘will it float or will it sink’ round – and our champions were crowned. A table led by Penny and Alistair, taking home the spoils: a hamper full of goodies. But perhaps more importantly, bragging rights!

The annual bash is also the time when we announce the winners of each year’s Academy Awards! Standing out amongst almost 200 members – each with their own unique stories and journeys – is always going to be tricky, but 15 picked up honours, ranging from ‘best newcomer’ to ‘most outstanding karateka’. Finally, it was quite a coup to manage to secure the visit of one of the most in-demand people at this time of year at our special event. Father Christmas stopped by to pass out gifts to the younger children present. And a few older ones too!

A big thank you to everyone for joining us and a special thanks to everyone that helped make sure the event ran smoothly. It was great to be back together again, as we should be.
